Khrystyna Yushkevych discussed with Ukrainian and foreign experts
The question of development of the forest industry

T. V. Head of the state agency of Forest Resources Christina Yushkevych discussed the development of the forest industry with the representative of the Environmental Protection Agency Mikael Sschter (Republic of Austria), members of the team of effective Regulation Office ( Brdo) Svetlana Kolomiets, Andriy Zzyets, Ihor Lavrynovych and National program coordinator Fleg in Ukraine Yuriy Markchukom.

In particular, during the meeting we discussed the question of the moratorium on export of timber materials, development of interactive map of forest, reforming the forestry industry.

National coordinator of the Fleg program in Ukraine Yuriy Marchuk noted that it is now necessary to take a number of normative and legal acts that will remove the tension on the issue of moratorium and allow to move forward. In particular, it is regulation of the wood market, regulation of wood circulation and the mechanism of forestry financing. If these questions settle, it will be one of the elements of strategy and further development of forestry. After all, reform is not a change in the signboard, and it is impossible to build a house of doors that are closed – it is in relation to the moratorium. You need to build a system, he said.
In his turn, senior analyst of office Brdo Igor Lavrinenko violated the issue of creating an interactive map of the forest, noting that for its effective management it is necessary to attract European colleagues. Experts also noted that to create such a full-fledged map it is necessary to have electronic registers and bases, that in the mode of on-line experts can make all the necessary data. “This is a difficult and long way, but it must be passed to have complete information on the state of forestry in Ukraine”,-said Igor Lavrinenko.

Besides, experts discussed the necessary steps for further development of forestry in Ukraine.

Representative of the Austrian Environmental Agency, Mikael Soter, emphasized that the Ukrainian forests are a good base, where you can build a sector with huge opportunities, but need to invest national and international level to Its development and that local illegal activities do not influence the level of investment attractiveness of Ukraine.

I think that one measure will not help the development of forestry, and now the moratorium is the only event. There needs to be a broader approach – a lot of changes, and in general Ukraine needs a national forestry program, said Mikael Terter.

He also paid special attention to the fact that for the development and implementation of the strategy should be the consolidation of all branches of power.

T. V. Head of the state forestry Khrystyna Yushkevych supported the remarks of the Austrian colleagues and noted that the first need to determine the main directions of development.

“If you take into account the wooded area of Ukraine and the species composition of the plantings, we have a unique country. And it is impossible to take any program or strategy of the foreign country and to transfer it to Ukraine. It is necessary to understand that the forests of the Ukrainian Southern and forests of the Ukrainian Carpathians have many differences, need different care and much more. Therefore we need to cooperate with domestic and foreign scientists and experts to develop their unique program, which would contain all territorial aspects of conservation, rational use, renewal and increase of Ukrainian forests,- Stressed Christina Yushkevych.

During the meeting, experts and experts agreed to continue their cooperation to conduct ground analysis and calculate all risks when making further decisions.
