Parliament has not canceled a moratorium on export of timber untreated!

Today, some media outlets incorrectly interpreted the decision of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to support the proposals of the President of Ukraine on the moratorium on export of firewood.

In this regard, the state agency of Forest resources of Ukraine informs.

In 2015, the parliament passed the Law on moratorium on export of timber untreated, except pine. Since 2017, the complete prohibition on export of timber raw materials (except firewood) is introduced.

And this moratorium continues to operate. Parliament did not decide to cancel the moratorium on export of timber raw materials (or as "wood-rounded" or business wood).

On July 3, 2018, the Parliament adopted the Law of Ukraine "on amending the Law of Ukraine" on amending certain legislative acts of Ukraine on preserving Ukrainian forests and preventing illegal forestry from being removed. He foresaw the strengthening of criminal responsibility for the smuggling of the forest. In addition, the law temporarily, for the period of 8 years, was planned to prohibit the export beyond the customs territory of Ukraine in customs mode of the export of fuel (wood).

The President of Ukraine has vetoed this law due to the discrepancy of its international obligations to Ukraine and submitted to Parliament the proposals to exclude the norm on the introduction of a moratorium on export of firewood, setting protective measures aimed at preserving Ukrainian forests. .

Today, on September 6, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported these proposals by the President of Ukraine.

Thus, the law on the preservation of Ukrainian forests and prevention of illegal submission of unprocessed timber was passed without the norm of the moratorium on export of firewood.

State Agency of Forest Resources of Ukraine supports strengthening of responsibility for any illegal activities in the field of forestry, as well as the Parliament's decision to support the proposals of the President of Ukraine.
